Pirates - 5
Orioles - 7 WP: Cody "QB1" Gladney (2-0) SV: Josh "McEasy" McEachin (1) Your Orioles were back in action on Sunday with a skeleton crew of 9 after having a season-high 15 show up. On the bump was the old war horse, Cody Gladney. The game started off with the Pirates putting a couple of runs on the board with four hits, all singles. While this might have frustrated mere mortal men, this wouldn't stop Gladney on this day. The Orioles got back to even in the third with Carlos Colon, leading it off with a double to right, getting him off the schnide for the year. After a couple ground ball outs, Tanner "Bachelor" Stevenson drew a walk and Boston Coppedge hit a double to the right center gap, scoring both Colon and Bachelor all the way from 1st to tie it up at 2. The Buccos scored once in the 4th and twice in the 5th to push their lead to 5-2 into the 7th inning, where the bottom of the order got the rally started. Cass singled and was followed by Colon hitting his second double of the night to the left center gap. With runners at 2nd and 3rd, Jake "Jameson" Bellington singled to left for his second of three hits on the day, scoring Cass and getting the O's to within two. After another hit from Frenchie to load the bases, Bachelor unloaded a smash to the right center gap, scoring Colon, Jameson, and Frenchie, ending up on 3rd for his first triple of the year. Coppedge struck out looking and walks to McEasy and Gladney brought up Kurt "Special K" Karnowski to hit a sac fly to left to score Bachelor and give the O's a two-run lead. Gladney delivered a monster effort in a game where we needed the starter to put in a lot of innings and that's exactly what he did, giving us 7 solid innings. Gladney final line: 7 IP, 5R, 3 ER, 10 H, 4 K, 1 HBP, 0 BB, 178 pitches thrown (approximate). McEasy came on in relief for the final two innings and shut the door. O's defense showed some shaky defense making a couple errors in the 9th, allowing the Pirates to load the bases with one out but McEasy buckled down and got the final two outs without giving up a run. News and Notes: Boobstick Transfer: While this was going to be reserved for McEasy getting picked off on the bases at 3rd, he was bailed out by Jameson attempting to steal 3rd base on the sly between an at-bat. He was easily thrown out at 3rd, costing Coppedge an at-bat and giving himself the uncoveted title of Boobstick Owner. It was redemption day for Colon and Coppedge, both who had multiple hit days after struggling for the better part of the year. They hit multiple balls hard tonight in big spots. O's reach 10 wins and guarantee another winning season for the 4th season in a row. Nice job boys. Next Game: Tuesday 6/28, Home vs Braves, McInnish @ 6:45 PM Probable Starter: McEasy

Nationals - 4
Orioles - 3 LP: Josh "McEasy" McEachin (4-1) 3B: Luc de la Soujeole The Orioles fall to their main rivals in a close game that was a painfully short five innings. The Nationals struck early against McEasy, scoring all four of their runs in the 1st. An infield single, hit by pitch, and walk loaded the bases with one out when a slider bounced on the plate and scored the first run. Gary "HotBoyz" Davis then bounced a ball that just eluded Tanner "Bachelor" Stevenson at 3rd base, resulting in a double and scoring another two runs. Gary came home on another single and the O's were down early. Frenchie led off the game and smoked a triple to the left-center gap, running through his stop sign to stop at 2nd. Anthony Cass, who tripled in the first game of the year, couldn't imagine that Frenchie is faster than he is. He scored when M. Garrabrants reached on an error to short. The O's would score two more in the 3rd inning after Bachelor hit a soft line drive to short. The short stop couldn't come up with the catch but knocked it down and overthrew 1st, which scored PCB and Jameson, cutting the score to 4-3. McEasy got into a groove after the first, not allowing another run in the following three innings, although there were many at bats which went 8+ pitches deep. Credit to the Nationals hitters for not going down without a fight. McEasy's line on the night: 4 IP, 4R, 6H, 2BB, 1HBP, 5K. He was helped out of the 4th inning by a pick-off throw from B. Coppedge to nail a lazy runner getting back to the bag at first. The O's threatened in the in the last two innings but just couldn't push the last run across to tie the game. The end of the game ended with line drive double play with Kurt "Special K" Karnowski smoking a ball to 3rd. A foot to either side would have scored the runner and push the winning run to scoring position, but that's just the way baseball go as Ronnie Wash used to say. The Orioles fall to 9-2-1 on the year and remain a clear top team in the league once again this year. Next Game: Sunday 6/26, Home vs Pirates, 4:00, Lake Highlands High School Probable Starter: C. Pirates - 6 WP: Kevin Simmons (1-0) SV: Tim "The Cannon" Hanan (3) As the saying goes "It's not how you start, it's how you finish" and that has never been more true as it was in this game. Cody "QB1" Gladney and his sparkling 0.00 ERA got the start on the night but a 40 pitch first inning leading to four runs (only one earned) wasn't the beginning the Orioles were looking for. Three errors didn't help matters but Gladney found his groove to strike out the last two batters in the first to leave them loaded and keep the damage where it was. Offensively, the Orioles continue to score early in ballgames, doing so in four of the past five games. Frenchie led off with another one of his team leading 11 walks and stole 2nd base. He moved over on a passed ball and was driven in by Matt Garrabrants. After the aforementioned four run 1st for the Pirates, the O's started the slow crawl back with a couple of runs in the 3rd. Newcomer Jeff "Sweetbeard" Lunsford smoked a single down the left field line to start off the inning and moved to second on a passed ball. After a groundout by Kevin Simmons, an error by the shortstop on Frenchie's groundball moved Sweetbeard over to 3rd which allowed to have Luc steal his second bag on the night. The clutch hit was made by Matt "Homerless" Garrabrants singling home both to get the game to 4-3. The Orioles tied the game up in the fourth. Boston Coppedge and Nick "Birdy" Bird drew back to back walks to start off the inning. After a couple of strikeouts, Kurt "Special K" Karnowski lined a two out, two strike double to the right center gap to easily score Coppedge who was attempting to steal third. While Bird had headed for home, Karnowski was greedy and tried to stretch his double into a triple and was thrown out at 3rd before Bird could score. Meanwhile, Gladney found his groove, allowing only two hits over the next four innings of work. His pitch counts by inning: 40,17,10, 6, and 14. That's what we call improvement. Gladney was in line for the win when the O's took the lead in the 6th when Frenchie once again reached base on a walk and stole second. M. Garrabrants followed with a walk of his own to put two on and two out for Coppedge. Coppedge chopped a ball to 3rd and between his hustle and a the throw going wide, Frenchie was able to score and put the O's ahead 5-4. Simmons came on in the 6th and gave up an unearned run which tied the game. The O's came back in the 7th, starting off wth a single from Cass. Preston Cole grounded into a fielder's choice, eliminating Cass on the bases. Cole stole 2nd and reached 3rd on a passed ball. Kurt "Special K" Karnowski singled home Cole to out the good guys up by 1. Karnowski was wiped out by another fielder's choice by Carlos Colon. Colon stole second and scored on a ball hit by Sweetbeard, who reached on an error. The O's loaded the bases at the end of the inning with a couple errors and a walk but weren't able to capitalize. Bottom of the 7th got a little interesting with the Pirates putting another run across and a couple of errors to give them a little hope but Timmy "The Cannon" Hanan came in to strike out the 8 hole to finish off the game with the tying run in scoring position. News and Notes: The O's were running wild on Tuesday night, stealing seven bases on the night. Frenchie had three all on his own. Must be the healthy herbal lifestyle he lives to keep his speed. The O's are playing a bit short handed this week with McEasy, Bachelor, Matt, Birdy Bird, and Simmins all missing time with various reasons. The depth will be tested on Sunday vs the Old Fashioneds. Oak Cliff Pelicans: 5
Orioles: 6 WP: Timmy "The Cannon" Hanan (2-1) 2B: Tanner "Bachelor" Stevenson Orioles show life late in coming back from a three run deficit in the last two innings to take down the Oak Cliff Pelicans 6-5 on Sunday afternoon. The Orioles got things early once again and once again, Tanner "Bachelor" Stevenson was the catalyst of the offense. Stevenson reached with a one out single to right. After a deep fly out by Matt Garrabrants, McEasy singled to put runners on at 1st and 2nd. Boston Coppedge hit a ground ball up the middle which the Pelicans short stop reached but on the toss to 2nd for the force out, the ball didn't find the mark and got away far enough for Stevenson to score and put the Orioles up 1-0. McEasy got the start and threw into the fourth inning, which ended up being full of action. The first two batters reached on a walk and single to left. Langley singled for the OC Pelicans to right, creating a play at the plate. The ball was relayed home from first baseman Kevin Simmons to Coppedge. The runner from 2nd came home and while reports claim he slowed down, he freight trained into Coppedge without any attempt to slide. Needless to say, Coppedge got his bell rung though he did stay in the game and had some language for the clean up hitter for the Pelicans who was ejected despite his protests. In an ironic twist, McEasy had been laboring a bit with his elbow so he came out after the play. The O's countered with Pelicans nemesis, Timmy "The Cannon" Hanan. Hanan did allow one inherited runner to score but got the O's out of the inning with minimal damage. McEasy's line on the day: 3.1 IP, 4 ER, 7H, 4K, 2BB. Timmy was great to close it out, striking out 7 in his 4.2 innings of relief. He finished strong, striking out the side to finish out the top of the 8th. The shutdown inning was huge since the O's had tied it in the bottom of the 7th. Cody Gladney and Hanan both singled to start off the inning. After Simmons struck out on a full count, Anthony Cass hit a ball to shallow right center which the center fielder couldn't come up with on the dive, which loaded the bases. Nick Bird, playing in his first game of the year since finishing law school, drew a bases loaded walk, scoring Gladney and getting the Orioles within two at 5-3. Carlos Colon struck out on another full count but Luc de la Soujeole crushed a Texas leager over the short stop, scoring both Hanan and Cass and tying the game at 5. Bird was thrown out at 3rd on the play, earning a boobstick in his first game back but more on that later. Since Hanan crushed any possible comeback by the Pelicans, it was time to go out and win the game and leading off the 8th was Mr. H.O.T Tanner Stevenson, who had his third hit of the day and then stole second. After a fly out to right for Garrabrants, Stevenson advanced to third on a wild pitch and McEasy ended up walking, bringing the winning run 90 feet away. After the Pelicans had a team meeting on the mound, they decided to intentionally walk Coppedge to load the bases. However, the first pitch sails over the catcher, going to the backstop, bringing Stevenson halfway down the line. The ball bounced back right to the catcher who overthrew the pitcher covering home. Bachelor was still considering making a break for home when he saw the shortstop get the ball and Tanner went back to 3rd. The short stop threw it past the third baseman and up the left field line, allowing Tanner to score and it's officially the most unique way I've ever seen a game end. News and Notes: Boobstick Transfer (and Relief): Nick Bird did earn the boobstick with his baserunning mistake but Preston Cole decided to give him a one time relief and keep the stick for himself. He misses the ole girl. Orioles have hit the halfway mark in the season with a 8-1-1 record, the 2nd best start for this group since 2012.
