Dallas Orioles Game Recaps
Your place to read about each and every game.
With the season starting on Sunday, I thought we could work on a little preview for the season as your Dallas Orioles try to take back the crown from the Oak Cliff Pelicans in the American League.
Five of the six teams are back this season with the exception of the Dallas Sox. Rejoining us this year will be the Braves, Indians, Pelicans, and Old Fashioneds. New to the league will be the Athletics and Pirates, who are complied of the Rookie Ball league if I've been told correctly, and finally, our old rivals the Nationals, formerly Sky Sox, round out the 8 team league. We have a few new full-timers this year on the Orioles squad. Kevin Simmons and Nick Bird are rejoining the team after their successful fall debuts with the squad. Kevin will be called upon to play some infield and be a key reliever/spot starter with Nick seeing time at the corners. Two other newcomers to the squad are Josh "McEasy" McEachin and Kurt Karnowski. Josh is actually well known to the Orioles since he threw against us every time we played last year when he was a member of the Braves. He actually had the most wins in the league last year so we're excited for him to be joining our pitching staff. Kurt was our draft pick this year and hopefully we have the same success we've had in the past with previous picks (Dr. Dylan Schuch and Blake "Bear" Daughtery come to mind). He'll be playing some middle infield for us this year. We return 12 members from last year's spring squad and the continuity should pay dividends. We'll have a outfield rotation with Carlos Colon, Matt Garrabrants, Preston Cole, Anthony Cass, and Tim Hanan running around out there. We could see some other cameo picks out there, depending on who shows up that day. The infield has a ton of potential combinations with Cody Gladney, Tanner Stevenson, Luc de la Soujeole, Jake Bellington, Alex Faught, Tim Hanan, Steve Garrabrants, Kurt Karnowski, Nick Bird, and Kevin Simmons all capable of playing multiple spots out there. We will not lack versatility this year. Catching will (hopefully) be a bit more shared this year with Boston Coppedge back behind the plate for the Orioles for a fifth season for the O's. Tim Hanan will see more time behind the plate as well, along with Alex Faught and Jake Bellington. Coppedge is looking forward to playing a little more first base as well. I think the biggest improvement we've made over the off-season is beefing up the pitching core. While I'm sure Tim "Cannon" Hanan loved pitching in most every game, we all knew it was time to get him some help. With the addition of McEasy to go along with Alex coming back full time and Luc coming back from the broken collarbone, we have four solid starters on the roster. We also have plenty of relief pitching between Matt Garrabrants, Cody Gladney, Kevin Simmons, and Preston Cole going out there and getting some easy innings in there. Jake Bellington and Anthony Cass will also get some innings this year, making pitching innings much easier to manage. Tim's arm will be the biggest fan of that. The Orioles are back and ready to get 2016 underway this Sunday, 4:00 PM at Lake Highlands High School against the Braves. The Braves will be facing McEasy as we love the delicious irony of throwing their old starter against them. Alex will be first up in relief. Starting Tuesday against the Nationals will be Timmy with Luc slated to be first in relief. We look forward to regaining our crown as champions of the American League and can't wait for the season to get started.
