Orioles - 7
Pirates - 6 WP: Kevin Simmons (1-0) SV: Tim "The Cannon" Hanan (3) As the saying goes "It's not how you start, it's how you finish" and that has never been more true as it was in this game. Cody "QB1" Gladney and his sparkling 0.00 ERA got the start on the night but a 40 pitch first inning leading to four runs (only one earned) wasn't the beginning the Orioles were looking for. Three errors didn't help matters but Gladney found his groove to strike out the last two batters in the first to leave them loaded and keep the damage where it was. Offensively, the Orioles continue to score early in ballgames, doing so in four of the past five games. Frenchie led off with another one of his team leading 11 walks and stole 2nd base. He moved over on a passed ball and was driven in by Matt Garrabrants. After the aforementioned four run 1st for the Pirates, the O's started the slow crawl back with a couple of runs in the 3rd. Newcomer Jeff "Sweetbeard" Lunsford smoked a single down the left field line to start off the inning and moved to second on a passed ball. After a groundout by Kevin Simmons, an error by the shortstop on Frenchie's groundball moved Sweetbeard over to 3rd which allowed to have Luc steal his second bag on the night. The clutch hit was made by Matt "Homerless" Garrabrants singling home both to get the game to 4-3. The Orioles tied the game up in the fourth. Boston Coppedge and Nick "Birdy" Bird drew back to back walks to start off the inning. After a couple of strikeouts, Kurt "Special K" Karnowski lined a two out, two strike double to the right center gap to easily score Coppedge who was attempting to steal third. While Bird had headed for home, Karnowski was greedy and tried to stretch his double into a triple and was thrown out at 3rd before Bird could score. Meanwhile, Gladney found his groove, allowing only two hits over the next four innings of work. His pitch counts by inning: 40,17,10, 6, and 14. That's what we call improvement. Gladney was in line for the win when the O's took the lead in the 6th when Frenchie once again reached base on a walk and stole second. M. Garrabrants followed with a walk of his own to put two on and two out for Coppedge. Coppedge chopped a ball to 3rd and between his hustle and a the throw going wide, Frenchie was able to score and put the O's ahead 5-4. Simmons came on in the 6th and gave up an unearned run which tied the game. The O's came back in the 7th, starting off wth a single from Cass. Preston Cole grounded into a fielder's choice, eliminating Cass on the bases. Cole stole 2nd and reached 3rd on a passed ball. Kurt "Special K" Karnowski singled home Cole to out the good guys up by 1. Karnowski was wiped out by another fielder's choice by Carlos Colon. Colon stole second and scored on a ball hit by Sweetbeard, who reached on an error. The O's loaded the bases at the end of the inning with a couple errors and a walk but weren't able to capitalize. Bottom of the 7th got a little interesting with the Pirates putting another run across and a couple of errors to give them a little hope but Timmy "The Cannon" Hanan came in to strike out the 8 hole to finish off the game with the tying run in scoring position. News and Notes: The O's were running wild on Tuesday night, stealing seven bases on the night. Frenchie had three all on his own. Must be the healthy herbal lifestyle he lives to keep his speed. The O's are playing a bit short handed this week with McEasy, Bachelor, Matt, Birdy Bird, and Simmins all missing time with various reasons. The depth will be tested on Sunday vs the Old Fashioneds. Next game: Sunday, 6/12, Away vs Old Fashioneds, 4:00 PM, Lake Highlands HS
