Braves: 0 Orioles: 6 WP: Alex Faught (1-0) 2B: Josh McEachin 3B: Anthony Cass Behind the strong work of Josh "McEasy" McEachin, Alex Faught, Matt Garrabrants, Kevin Simmons, and Tim Hanan, the Orioles displayed the pitching depth so eagerly awaited by combining to throw a two hit shutout of the Braves on Sunday afternoon at Lake Highlands High School. Getting the start was free agent addition Josh McEachin aka McEasy and he certainly made it look easy with three crisp perfect innings of work. No ball left the infield and he finished with six strikeouts against his former club. Alex Faught came in for his own three inning stint and was nearly as dominant. While he did allow a seeing eye single, he immediately picked him off, keeping the Braves to the minimum number of batters. On the offensive side, the O's had a golden opportunity in the first inning by loading the bases with no one out but could not convert the opportunity into runs. Clearly there is still some rust to knock off but the Braves pitching was not exactly the most accurate as they walked eight batters and hit two others in the first three innings. Incredibly, they could not convert any of these into runs. Manager Anthony Cass got the scoring started by having the first Oriole hit of the year with a low line drive that the centerfielder couldn't come up with. With the misjudged dive, Cass was able to take a single and turn it into a triple. Cass did look like he need some oxygen coming around second base as most likely, he has not run that far in a single stretch in multiple years. Jake Bellington followed that up with an infield single to score Cass and get the O's on the board. The game was tight into the 7th when the walks finally caught up with the Braves. Tanner "Bachelor" Stevenson led off the inning with a broken bat single. The next four batters all walked, scoring two runs and giving the cushion the O's needed. A total of six batters walked in the inning and fifteen for the game. The final three frames were thrown by Garrabrants, Simmons, and Hanan with all three looking sharp in their debuts. Garrabrants had an easy 1-2-3 inning, throwing his patented "Woodchipper" two seam fastball for more strikes. Sadly, he did not bean anyone so he is not leading one of his favorite two categories for league supremacy. Simmons also didn't allow a hit in his inning of work, coming in and getting groundballs. Hanan, the staff ace from last year, came on to get a little bit of work in since the game on Tuesday night has been cancelled. He gave up a double to the first batter but came back and got the next three batters in quick order. News and Notes: Boobstick Presentation: Today's Boobstick recipient was none other than Cody Gladney. Gladney had quite the 8th inning as he made multiple errors and then stuck out looking. He did redeem himself by tagging out a runner who tried to advance on his error but to say it wasn't pretty is an understatement. Gladney was holding out for a new contract, skipping all of the off-season workouts held by the team. While he has decided to play out his current deal, today did not help his case to get a raise. Glad to have you back, Cody! Both teams were being no-hit into the 4th inning until Cass had his triple. A Hitter's Union type day it was not. The Orioles staff was so dominant that they only faced one batter over the minimum. Only three Braves got to bat more than twice. Both hits for the Braves came from the last batter in the lineup. The rest of the team was 0 - 27. O's pitching staff: 9 IP, 2H, 0R, 8K, 0BB. Great job guys! She was ready to watch some baseball!
