Dallas Orioles Game Recaps
Your place to read about each and every game.
Orioles - 8 Pelicans - 5 WP: Josh "McEasy" McEachin (1-0) SV: Tim "Cannon" Hanan (1) Behind a six run 3rd inning, the Orioles take down the Oak Cliff Pelicans 8-5 in the second game of the season. The pitching has remained stellar early in the season. Starter Alex Faught went four innings, striking out five and only giving up three hits with one earned run. Faught was followed by McEasy and McEasy unfortunately did not received the best of the defensive play behind him. O's defense made three errors behind McEasy, leading to four unearned Pelicans runs. All runs allowed except for one have been unearned which means in two games, the O's pitching staff has kept up a 0.50 ERA. Well done boys! Tim Hanan came in to finish out the game in the 8th and struck out four in his two innings of work, giving up three singles and walking one. It was Hanan's first save of the season. The O's offense was still underwhelming but did come through when it needed to, putting 8 runs on the board. The 3rd inning ended up being all the O's needed as they plated six runs. The first five batters all reached base with four hits and a walk. Cody Gladney started the scoring with a 2 RBI single and later scored in the inning. Gladney led the offense going 3-3 and finishing with 3 RBI and a run scored. The man just couldn't be stopped on Sunday. Other noteworthy performances included Tanner "Bachelor" Stevenson scoring twice and chipping in a stolen base along with Kevin Simmons also scoring twice and reaching base all three times. Even with a bum ankle, Simmons has been getting the job done offensively for the O's The O's were once again active on the basepaths with another four steals to go along with the seven they had in the first game. The aggressive running game has paid off dividends in the first two games of the season, especially with the offense not clicking on all cylinders just yet. News and Notes: O's pitching staff has only allowed 7 hits in 18 innings. Impressive, especially for a men's league. The Orioles offense has scored 14 runs this season. Only two of them have come from hitters in the 1-6 holes. The bottom half of the order has been getting done early in the season. It seems the Orioles stats for the 8th inning never happened as there is nothing listed in the scorebook. This is disappointing only because Matt Garrabrants received his first ever bookstick and there was no actual written record of the event, outside of this game recap. Luckily, we all got to see it live and in person so there is no doubting that existed. The joy was indescribable to all who witnessed it. Boobstick Transfer: Cody Gladney only held the title of Boobstick Owner for one game as Matt Garrabrants earned it with his stolen base in the 8th inning. After stealing second base on a close play, he was declared safe but just assumed he was out because he "believed the umpire would call him out". He started to walk back to the dugout and took a couple steps off the bag. While he did get back, he knew he earned his boobstick calling and graciously accepted the award. We hope you like it, Matt! Next Game: The O's take their 2-0 record into the Tuesday night game against the Pirates. Cody Gladney, fresh off relinquishing the boobstick to Matt Garrabrants, will be starting on the hill and it figures to be a pitching by committee situation all night with innings probably coming from Gladney, Simmons, Preston "Sleuth" Cole, and Jake Bellington. Game is at McInnish Park at 9:00 PM so be ready for a late one everybody.
