Old Fashioneds - 16
Orioles - 4 LP: Tim Hanan (0-1) 2B: Matt Garrabrants (2), Josh McEachin (1) Ron Washington was famous for his Yogi Berra like saying "That's the way baseball go". That quote came to mind when after the conclusion of the O's-Old Fashioneds game on Sunday. A drubbing the Orioles have not seen in quite some time, there was just no way to describe it besides it being just one of those days. Tim Hanan got the start and it just started off poorly for the O's from the jump. A lead off walk and a single had the first two men aboard. After an error from Luc de la Soujeole, the O's were down 1-0 and there were runners at 2nd and 3rd. After a walk to load the bases, the O's finally got an out with a force at home. Another walk and a hit brought home three more runs for the OF's and a 4-0 lead. After a tough at-bat with Old Fashioned's manager Mark Shonka, Shonka dumped a tailing fly ball into right left for a double and another two runs scored. Another hit followed, scoring Shonka and giving the Old Fashioneds a 7-0 lead after the 1st. Never in Tim's illustrious career with the Orioles has he ever given up 7 runs in an inning, let alone most games. Tim's final line: 2 IP, 7 R, 3 ER, 3 K, 5 BB. Alex Faught, Matt Garrabrants, and Josh McEachin finished out the pitching for the O's. Offensively, the O's could just not get a key hit. The Orioles had a season high 16 runners left on base, which is just absurd considering the most you can leave on base in a 9 inning game is 27. A bright spot for the O's offense was Matt Garrabrants, who seemed to wake up out of his early season slumber with three hard hit balls on the day including two doubles to both gaps. Luc de la Soujeole was also swinging a hot bat, going 3-5 and reaching base four times. He was stranded four times, which just emphasizes the lack of hits with runners on base the O's had this day. Jake Bellington also finished the day 2-4 and continues to swing a hot bat for the O's. Sunday just wasn't the O's day but like the great Rick Carlisle says, "We're going to flush it and move on to the next one". News and Notes: Boobstick Transfer: Alex Faught earned his first ever boobstick by forgetting how many outs there were in the 8th inning, leading to another run. When he asked if he could be exempt from the boobstick considering the score was out of hand by this point, Boston Coppedge gave him a resounding "No" from the dugout. Tanner Stevenson has finally been released from the burden, just in time for his graduation from Seminary. Congrats Tanner! Next Game: Tonight 5/17, Away vs Indians, Reverchon Park, 8:45 PM (assuming rain holds off)
