Orioles - 6 Indians - 1 WP: Cody Gladney (3-0) Playing on the beautiful Graham Field at Prestonwood Christian Academy, the Orioles followed a strong start by Cody "QB1" Gladney to put down the Indians 6-1 on Tuesday night. Gladney had been slightly overlooked going into this year with the three headed monster of McEasy, Timmy "Cannon" Hanan, and Alex Faught thought to take up the bulk of the innings. We need to consider him now the 4th horseman with his latest start on the year. Gladney worked around two first inning walks to get out of trouble and pretty much hit cruise control after that. Only an error from Kurt "Special K" Karnowski led to the Indians only runner to reach past second base for the entire game. Gladney's line: 5 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 H, 5 K, 2 BB. Another great day for Gladney, who lowered his ERA to an incredible 1.57 on the year. He's also averaging nearly 6 IP per start, easily the highest on the team. The game was a competitive one deep into the game. The O's got started with their scoring in the 2nd with walks to McEasy and M. Garrabrants and moved up a base on a passed ball. Gladney helped his cause with a groundball to score McEasy and even reached base when the shortstop flubbed the throw to 1st. After a couple of quick outs, Special K continued his hard hitting with a nice stroke into right to score Garrabrants and put the O's up by two. The O's had opportunities go to waste with loading the bases in the 5th and not scoring and having a couple of guys thrown out on the basepaths (more on that later). The O's broke through in the 7th with M. Garrabrants starting off with a sharp single up the middle and stealing 2nd base to show everyone that he's still got some wheels. Garrabrants hit another deep ball that was caught at the warning track earlier in the game and seems to be heating up at the plate...just in time for the playoffs. Nothing gets Garrabrants rolling like the smell of playoff baseball on the horizon. After a single from Gladney and a walk for Carlos Colon, Anthony Cass drew a bases loaded walk to score Garrabrants. Special K followed with a grounder to 1st who threw home for the force at home to get Gladney. Unfortunately for the Indians, the catcher tried to make it a double play and threw it all the way down the right field line, scoring Carlos and Cass and pushing the lead to 5-1. Jameson followed with a chop to the pitcher, who had to dive for the ball, which allowed Kurt to score from 3rd and push the lead to the final score of 6-1. M. Garrabrants and McEasy both got an inning of relief and both guys kept up their stellar seasons on the mound. Garrabrants had a ho-hum 9 pitch, 1-2-3 inning and McEasy got some pen work in, striking out two to close it down in the 7th. News and Notes: Boobstick Transfer: Ah yes. We have another transfer of the BS. This week's winner: Frenchie. Luc lined a single and though he could stretch it into two bases. He was wrong by a good 15 feet. Can't win them all Frenchie. With the win, Gladney moved into 2nd on the team in innings pitched and wins with three, meaning he has passed Timmy "The Cannon" Hanan in that column, a point he is especially proud of. Tim has a chance to tie him up on Sunday when we resume the Old Fashioneds game he was dominating through four innings. Gladney has volunteered to start off that game for Tim to get in line for the win and then let Tim go back into the game to finish it out. We'll find out from Hanan if he's alright with that idea. We have a double header of sorts on Sunday with the conclusion of the previous Old Fashioneds game followed immediately by another game against the 'Neds. The first game will resume at 11:00 am at Jesuit HS so let's try and have those hangovers minimized earlier than normal, shall we gentlemen? Stats have also been updated and will be posted tomorrow. Next game(s): Sunday, Away vs Old Fashioneds, 11:00 am/1:00 pm, Jesuit HS P. Starters: T. Hanan, J. McEachin
